DAY 2 COLLEEN RILEY CROSSOVER: SANTA BARBARA RUNS PAST FULLERTON

The No. 20 Hornets took on a speedy and athletic No. 23 Santa Barbara City squad on Friday night in the Nest and fell to the Vaqueros 67-56.

FC's loss puts the overall team record at 11-2 dropping only its second game on the season, while the win for Santa Barbara City gives the Vaqs a sigh of relief after losing to No. 22 Citrus on Thursday. SBCC is now 10-3 on the season and will play Porterville on Saturday at 3:00 pm.

It was a fast game with both teams running up and down the hardwood. Santa Barbara seemed to control the flow of the game with its run-and-gun style as Fullerton did its best to keep pace. The first half was a neck-and-neck race that ended with the Vaqueros ahead 31-29 thanks to Sierra Jewel's three-pointer with 9 seconds before halftime. 

In the second half, Santa Barbara held on to the lead like a dog with a bone, in fact they pressed ahead putting up a 12-point lead (47-35) with two minutes left in the third quarter. The Hornets managed to pull within 6 in the fourth but was unable to recover after two daggering threes by the Vaqs with 3 minutes left in the game.

FC's Erin Choi gave a valiant effort in the loss with 18 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals. Hailey Lakey dropped in 12 points, had 5 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Julianna Conklin scored 7 points, while Xochitl Hood put up 6 with 11 rebounds and 4 steals.
