HORNETS CAN'T HOLD ON: Fullerton College opened up Orange Empire Conference play on Thursday falling 5-2 at home to Santa Ana College.
The Hornets (8-5 overall, 0-1 OEC) scored two runs in the second inning and tried to hold on, but the Dons (12-1, 1-0) took over in the 8th putting up 3 runs.
Fullerton starter Troy Mulcahey took the loss after throwing 7.1 innings allowing 2 earned runs, 4 walks on 5 hits while striking out 4 batters.
Santa Ana starter Matt Blanchard tossed a complete game allowing 4 hits, no earned runs, 2 walks, and 8 strikeouts.
SS Dakota Wix had 2 of the Hornets 4 hits. DH Garrett Donohoe chipped in with a sore shoulder by scoring a run. 3B Thomas Castro scored the other Hornet run while 1B Erik Lewis and catcher Oliver Jackson each contributed a hit.
