No. 2 Fullerton College welcomed No. 9 Modesto College to the Nest on Friday night to kick off the 38th Fullerton College Classic and the Hornets did not disappoint hauling in a 72-56 victory over the Pirates.
It was a great matchup between two red-hot teams with both Modesto (8 straight wins) and Fullerton (7 straight wins) rolling into the game with 9-1 records. Fullerton managed to break the Pirate's win-streak handing them their second loss of the season.
The Hornets jumped all over the Pirates in the opening minutes going on a 16-4 run that ended with a nice lay-in by Jackson Hopps. After a fire alarm interrupted the game for a few minutes, the Hornets remained hot after Addy G'bye's deep three-pointer that lifted FC 35-19. Another bucket by Joe Grahovac gave Fullerton its biggest lead of 18 just before halftime.
Modesto crawled within 10 points of FC in the second half, but the Hornets held their lead throughout the remainder of the game with three's by Jaqari Miles, Kairi Shepherd, and a pretty alley-oop-dunk to Joe Grahovac from Justin Davis.
FC's Addy G'bye was on point tonight scoring a game high 18 points hitting 4 of 6 from three-point-land and bringing 4 rebounds. Kairi Shepherd and Joe Grahovac both contributed 12 points each with Shepherd bringing down 4 boards and Grahovac getting 5. Jaqari Miles added 10 points, while Justin Davis and Shawn Woodson scored 7 each. Davis also had 9 assists, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals.
In the early game featuring unranked West LA vs. No. 8 San Diego, the Cougars stunned the Knights 66-56. The win bumps West LA to 8-4 on the season, while the San Diego City loss put the team at 7-4 overall.
