Second-Half Surge Sends No. 9 Hawks Soaring Past Dons
An emphatic dunk from freshman point guard Cian Adriano capped off a dominant second half for the No. 9 Santiago Canyon College men's basketball team, leading them to a 98-76 victory over district rival Santa Ana College. After a closely contested first half, the Hawks outscored the Dons by 17 points in the second half, securing the commanding win.
Santiago Canyon came just one point shy of surpassing the century mark for the second consecutive game. There were 16 lead changes and seven tied scores, mostly during the first half. Four of the five starters reached double digits, with sophomore Tony Colley leading the charge offensively.
Colley, who ranks second on the team with 15.8 points per game, recorded his third straight double-digit performance, scoring 23 points. It was his first game with over 20 points since early January in a win over Fullerton. He also came one rebound shy of a double-double, adding two blocks and two steals.
Freshman backcourt duo EJ Bryson and Colin Weems each scored 19 points. Bryson narrowly missed a double-double, contributing nine rebounds and four assists, while Weems grabbed three rebounds and dished out two assists.
Sophomore Trevor Manning added 16 points to round out the top scorers.
Freshman reserve Salim Semaan played 20 minutes, scoring nine points, including a three-pointer. Adriano, also coming off the bench, played 15 minutes and added six points.
The Hawks shot over 50 percent from the field for the second consecutive night and posted a three-point shooting percentage of 41.9 percent.
