Cuesta Men's Water Polo returned to action last week and showed no signs of rust after a three-week layoff. The Cougars blew through the competition at the Mt San Antonio Tournament and won their four games by a combined total of 72-17. On Friday, they won their tournament-opener over Southwestern, 17-5, and then faced their 2021 CCCAA Regional Quarterfinal opponent, Orange Coast. In 2021, the Cougars snuck past the Pirates, 8-7, to advance to the semi-finals, but blew out the Bucs last Friday, 17-7. Cuesta kept rolling on Saturday, with wins over Rio Hondo, 17-5, and rare shutout over Fullerton, 17-0. The Cougars, who had not played Fullerton since the 2014 playoffs, enjoyed their first whitewash since blanking American River, 12-0, on September 23, 2017. The Cougars are 7-0 on the season.
Men's Water Polo hosts the 43rd Cuesta Arena Invitational this Friday and Saturday. The tournament lands smack in the middle of the season and is considered the State's premier tournament. The Cougars also host a pre-tournament game against defending CCCAA State Champion Golden West on Thursday (1:30).
