On a perfect warm day, the GCC Baseball Team almost played perfect baseball as they limited visiting Santa Ana College to just two hits to beat the visitors from Orange County 9-0. The win snapped a two-game losing streak as Glendale improved to 8-6-1.
Staring pitcher John Trainor got the win in his five innings of work, striking out three and allowing just one hit. Relievers Maximo Newhart, Juan Rodriguez, Luis Fernandez and Liam Thatcher all logged one inning each on the mound and allowed just one Santa Ana hit between them. Jackson Lyons led the hit parade with three hits and David Lozano had a three-run homer in the seventh inning to make the score 9-0 and also added a double in the game. Alex Dolan, David Ruiz, Ethan Munoz and Jordan Viramontes all had two hits each and Dolan also doubled and Viramontes homered.
Glendale continues the three-game series against Santa Ana on the road Thursday at 2 pm and return home to host the Dons Saturday March 1 at 1 pm at Stengel Field before starting Western State Conference play next week against College of the Canyons.
