No. 19 Santa Ana Baseball Extends Winning Streak to Nine

SANTA ANA, Calif. - The No. 19 ranked Santa Ana Baseball team extended its winning streak to nine games with a 7-3 victory over Long Beach City (14-10) in a non-conference game.

Josh Rodriguez earned his second win in just his third start of the year. The freshman from La Serna High struck out five over six innings while giving up three runs. 

Sophomore lefthander Spencer Johnsen shut down the Viking bats over the last three innings, recording six strikeouts of his own to pick up his third save of the season. 

The Dons (16-6) saw their offense come in waves as all seven of their runs were scored in the first and sixth innings. 

Jack Mueller led the game off with a homerun to left field to get SAC on the board. A few batters later, Nathaniel Williams came up clutch with a two RBI single through the left side to drive home Connor Dietsch and Mason Kelley.

LBCC did not go away easily as they chipped away with a run in the fifth followed by a couple more in the sixth to tie the game. 

In the sixth, Jackson Haney put a ball in play to force a errant throw home. Ken Tomitaka and Williams would score on the play while Haney advanced to second. 

Cole Kenrich and Mueller both came up with hits to bring home two more runs in the inning. 

Santa Ana will hit the road on Wednesday for game two of the short series against Long Beach City before returning home for another non-conference game against Mt. San Jacinto. First pitch on Wednesday is set for 2:00 p.m.
