HUNTINGTON BEACH - The Marauder softball team won a pair of games Friday afternoon at the Golden West College Tournament defeating Southwestern College and host Golden West.
The Marauders defeated Southwestern, 5-1, and came back and had no trouble with Golden West in the second game with an easy 14-4 victory.
Valerie Dorantes, Dolly Stevens and Amantha Arriola did the job at the plate in the first game by each collecting two hits. Dorantes and Stevens each had two RBI in that game.
Morgan Arndt did the rest on the mound as she pitched a complete game and allowed only one run while scattering seven hits. Arndt had a shutout heading into the top of the seventh inning before allowing a run in the final frame.
In the second game AVC (11-5) had no problems at the plate as six players had multiple hits. Four players also had multiple RBI including Paige Johnson with four adding to her state leading 37.
Krystan Cook did her job at plate going 3-for-3 with three RBI and on the mound as well as she pitched three inning of one-hit ball while striking out three.
Elise Moore was 4-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Stevens, Dorantes, Rebecca Whelchel and Sara Weiser each had two hits for the Marauders. Stevens and Weiser both had two RBI.
"We have really been focusing on getting better in the circle and on defense," AVC head coach Cindy Vargas said. "This week it really came together. The girls are playing really well right now and we hope to keep it going as we start conference next week."
