No. 10 Men’s Basketball Sweeps Season Series Against Cypress
The No. 10 Santiago Canyon College men's basketball team carted its three-game winning streak into the second half of Orange Empire Conference (OEC) play, taking on the No. 19 Cypress College Chargers on Wednesday night. The Hawks dominated the first half, building a 13-point lead by halftime, which helped propel them to a commanding 78-65 victory.
After posting a season-low shooting percentage in a victory against Riverside last Friday, the Hawks bounced back with a solid 47.6% shooting performance, including a 30% clip from beyond the arc.
Freshman Efe Gucoglu led the charge from long range, coming off the bench to play 22 minutes and shooting 4-for-6 from three-point land. His efforts resulted in a team-high 20 points—just one shy of his season-high and his best showing since a win over Chaffey on November 5.
Freshman guard EJ Bryson continued his strong play, marking his seventh consecutive double-digit scoring game with 14 points. Bryson was one assist away from a double-double, recording a career-high nine assists. He also added seven rebounds and five steals.
Sophomore Tony Colley and freshman Salim Semaan each chipped in 10 points, rounding out the Hawks' top offensive performers.
On the defensive end, the Hawks were relentless, forcing 20 turnovers, which they converted into 23 points, playing a pivotal role in the outcome of the game.
