Gauchos down Chargers to even OEC record
The Saddleback women's tennis team picked up its first Orange Empire Conference victory on Tuesday with a 6-3 over Cypress College at the Saddleback Tennis Complex. The Gauchos dominated singles play to improve to 1-1 in the OEC.
Saddleback was looking to bounce back from a loss to Fullerton a week earlier and with all the weather interruptions was playing just its third complete match in the past two weeks. The Gauchos kicked off the rust and delivered a gem, beating the Chargers to get things back on track.
Saddleback won 2-of-3 doubles matches to start after Cypress had to forfeit at No. 3 doubles due to a lack of players. Bailey Donine and Siena Rosnagle were easy winners at No. 2 doubles, racing past Angelica Palomares and Linda Santana, 8-2, to give Saddleback a 2-1 lead.
Donine and Rosnagle weren't finished, winning at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively. Donine had to go three sets to defeat Shannon Beaver 0-6, 6-1, 6-2. Rosnagle, however, made quick work of Palomares 6-1, 6-0. Other singles winners on Tuesday were Sydney Page and Alexa Berg. Page scored a 7-6, 6-0 win against Soriano while Berg cruised past Linda Santana 6-0, 6-1.
Saddleback will back on the courts on Thursday when they travel to Irvine Valley College to face the Lasers. Match time is scheduled for 2:00 PM in Irvine.
