The Riverside City College Men's Tennis team is making a run at the singles and doubles State Title. The California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Regional and State Championships are taking place this weekend (April 25-28) in Ventura and Ojai.
State "Player of the Year" nominee Jordan Gobatie (Poly HS) is having a spectacular tournament. He is in the Quarterfinal Round Saturday at 9:30. On his way to the Quaterfinals (3 matches) he has won 36 games while dropping only 3. Jordan is the last remaining Tiger in the singles event.
State "Player to Watch" nominee Danny Garcia (Arlington HS) made it to the Round of 16 in singles before a disappointing loss. He bounced back in Double with some outstanding play. Garcia and Gobatie are the #2 seeds in the south and have dropped only 6 games on their way to tomorrow's Quaterfinal match. In today's Round of 32 and Round of 16 matches Gobatie/Garcia defeated Palomar 6-0, 6-0 and then defeated the #5 seeds in the north 6-0, 6-1. Gobatie's two day totals include 6 victories (singles and doubles) - 72 games while dropping only 9 games.
Gobatie will face the #1 seed in the south (Josh Banks - COD) tomorrow at 9:30 at the Ojai Athletic Club. If he wins he will play again in the 12:30 Semifinal.
Goabtie and Garcia will pair up tomorrow at 2:00 at the Ojai Athletic Club for their Quaterfinal match.
