Pirates drop OEC opener to Hornets, 4-0

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's soccer team opened Orange Empire Conference play against visiting Fullerton College and the Pirates came up on the wrong side of a 4-0 decision at the OCC Soccer Complex on Tuesday afternoon.

The Pirates hung tough with last year's OEC champs, but a pair of costly mistakes led to a pair of easy goals for the Hornets and the guests cruised from there.

OCC had a pair of solid scoring chances in the second half to get back into the match. Coast was awarded a penalty kick in the 68th minute, but the shot off the foot of Devin La Clair sailed over the top of the crossbar, keeping the Pirates off the scoreboard.

In the 75th minute, a mini breakaway by Floresta Damiano led to a point-blank save by FC's backup goalkeeper, Ryan Moreno-Rojas, who kicked away the OCC shot.

OCC goalkeeper Adam Guillen had three saves, while Moreno-Rojas had three saves as well.

Coast will play at Cypress on Friday at 3 p.m. before returning to the OCC Soccer Complex on Tuesday against Irvine Valley, also at 3 p.m.
