Hawks Honor Three Sophomores in Five-Set Season Finale
The Santiago Canyon College women's volleyball team honored three sophomores who have dedicated their talents to the program over the past two years. These players formed a powerful offensive trio, featuring Chelsea Riedel, Peyton Speakman, and Sophie Ziglinski.
The Hawks hosted the Irvine Valley College Lasers for the final match of the season and got off to a strong start, winning the first two sets 25-21 and 25-18. However, they struggled in the final three sets, ultimately falling in a five-set defeat for the second consecutive match.
Riedel ended her career on a high note, posting a career-high 34 kills along with 16 digs and one block. She finished the season with 320 kills, surpassing her previous season total of 200 kills. Riedel completed her career with an impressive 520 kills.
Speakman continued to lead the offense, registering 42 assists, matching her career-best mark. This was her second match in the past three games with more than 40 assists. Speakman also finished with 20 or more assists in 17 matches this season. Over the course of her career, she totaled 738 assists, more than 300 assists higher than her first-year total. Additionally, Speakman contributed 14 digs and recorded two blocks.
Freshman Ashlyn Smith added seven kills and 10 digs, while freshman Jayden Sessom anchored the backline with 13 digs. Freshman Liean Navarro also had a strong defensive performance with 12 digs, along with a pair of aces.
Rounding out the contributions, freshman Riley Bingel, who finished third on the team with 85 kills, recorded five kills and three blocks during the match.
