The Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball Team delivered an impressive performance against Golden West College on Wednesday, September 18. The Mounties secured a 3-0 victory, improving their season record to 8-4, while Golden West fell to 2-5. With teamwork and skill on display, the women won in three straight sets with scores of 25-23, 25-13 and 25-14.
Despite a slow start that left the team down 17-9 in the first set, the Mounties rallied after a critical timeout, demonstrating their resilience and determination. Middle blocker Jordyn Romano had an outstanding match with 17 kills and a hitting percentage of .440. Outside hitter Candace Ceballos also contributed significantly, adding 10 kills, eight digs and three blocks. Overall, the team recorded 46 kills with a .348 hitting percentage, highlighting their offensive dominance throughout the match.
"We've been working on all the intangibles that can't be measured on the state sheet: confidence, chemistry, leadership, trust and energy," Coach Neely said. "We knew today was a test for us. We had a strong showing in Friday's match against Riverside, and the challenge was to see if we could consistently bring those intangibles to every match we show up to. Although we had a slow start, I think we proved something to ourselves today, and we will continue to grow in the right direction."
The Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball Team will next compete on Friday, September 20, at home against Mt. San Jacinto College, with the match scheduled to start at 5:00 PM. As of this week, the Mounties are ranked No. 6 in Southern California and No. 11 in the state. Go Mounties!
