Irvine Valley's women's 2024-25 basketball team came to a close Saturday night in the second round of the So. Cal. Regional Playoffs at Orange Coast.
IVC, seeded 17th, fell to top-seeded Orange Coast, 79-55.
The Lasers pushed the Pirates in the final game of the regular season last week to the end, losing by just four points and having the game go down to the last few minutes.
But it was a different story on Saturday. The two-time defending state champion Pirates jumped out to a 20-4 lead after the first quarter and cruised from there.
OCC (24-5) moves on to the state sweet 16 where it will host Cerro Coso next Saturday.
Irivne Valley finished its season with a record of 16-14 overall.
Five different players reached double figures in scoring for the Pirates.
Zoie Lamkin led OCC with 19 points, while Myia Collins earned herself a triple-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the way.
For the Lasers, sophomore point guard Haruka Mikuma had a hot hand with 18 points on 7 of 13 shooting and went 4 of 5 from three-point range.
But IVC shot just 22 of 58 (37.9 percent) from the field as a team and committed 19 turnovers in the contest.
Sophomore guard Moka Saiki and freshman forward Alexis Price each added eight points for the Lasers. Freshman wing player Kivonni Williams chipped in seven points and eight rebounds.
It was still a solid season for first-year head coach Claire Gocke and 2024-25 was something to build on in future years.
