Men's soccer team goes on the road and beats Cypress

The Irvine Valley men's soccer team picked up its biggest win of the season on Friday as the Lasers look to finish the season strong.

Irvine Valley scored in the 25th minute and its defense stepped up, led by freshman goalie Rolando Hernandez, to earn a 1-0 Orange Empire Conference victory at Cypress on Friday.

Freshman forward Finn Monk scored his first goal of the season, putting the ball in the back of the net off of a cross from freshman Carter Cooper in the 25th minute.

Hernandez earned the clean sheet in goal, IVC's first of the season, and ended with four saves.

Freshman midfielder Cristian Sanchez led Irvine Valley with three shots.

Irvine Valley finished with eight shots on the day with five on goal.

The Lasers, who now sit in fifth place in conference, host a big match next Tuesday.

IVC plays the top team in the OEC, Fullerton, at 3 p.m.
