Cats record 15th win of the season

For just the fourth time in program history the Saddleback women's soccer team has 15 wins after a 5-1 win against Golden West College on Tuesday at Orange Coast College.  The Bobcats scored three goals in the first 22 minutes in cruising past the Rustlers.

Saddleback was looking to rebound after a disappointing loss to Santiago Canyon College on Friday.  The Bobcats also had to adjust to a change of plans after it was announced the game had been moved to Orange Coast College at 1:00 PM as a result of an unplayable field at Golden West.  Saddleback adapted just fine, bolting out to a 4-0 lead in the opening half.

Saddleback shot out of the gate quickly, scoring two goals in the opening seven minutes of the game.  Chloe Green (pictured) scored off a pass from Emma Radzai in the fourth minute and then scored off a pass from Averee Campos in the 7th minute for a 2-0 lead.  Campos made the score 3-0 in the 22nd minute when she connected on a penalty kick after Christina Santoyo was fouled inside the box.    Santoyo would add a goal of her own in the 40th minute when she took a pass from Leila Patopoff and slid it into the net for a 4-0 lead at the intermission.

Saddleback wasted no time in getting back on the scoreboard when the second half started, with Lizbeth De Loera scoring her team-leading 15th goal of the season off a pass from Alexa Livingstone in the 50th minute.

Saddleback started Jamie-Lynne Clark in goal and then went to Olivia Wynn in the second half.  The duo combined for six saves.  Golden West scored its lone goal in the 78th minute.

It was the 15th win of the season for Saddleback as the Bobcats now stand at 15-2-3 overall and 10-1-2 in Orange Empire Conference play.  Saddleback had a record 19 wins a season ago, breaking the previous record of 16 set in 2015.  Saddleback had one other season of 15 wins in 2003.

Saddleback will try to make it 16 wins on Thursday when they finish up the regular season schedule with a road game at inter-district rival Irvine Valley College.  The Bobcats defeated the Lasers 8-0 in the first round of conference play on October 18.  Game time is scheduled for 3:00 PM at IVC.
