
Pirates outlast Jets in five
SAN DIEGO -- After a rough start on Friday night, the Orange Coast College men's volleyball team turned on the jets (literally) and rallied for a five-set win over the Miramar College Jets at Miramar College.
After dropping the first two sets of the match, the Pirates (9-1), rallied with three sets in a row to top the Jets, 19-25, 18-25, 25-13, 25-16, 15-12.
Noah Keelin led the OCC offense with 20 kills to go along with five blocks and three digs. Jacob Surrette added 13 kills, four blocks and a pair of aces, while Kam Valilian knocked down 10 kills to go along with seven digs and six total blocks. Adam Haidar notched a third of OCC's 27 total blocks with nine block assists, while Jase Fukushima dished out 38 assists and tied teammate Gabriel Armen-Nichter for the team lead in digs with eight.
For the Jets, Joshua Woodhams and Tristen Miller each had 12 kills, while Daniel Fountain added nine. Brennan Schmidt paced the offense with 29 assists, while Fountain and Grant Guiomar each had eight digs.
The Pirates will return to the friendly confines of the Peterson Gym on Wednesday when they host Grossmont, beginning at 6 p.m.
