Tigers Hand Pirates First Loss of Season

It came down to the final singles match between two Orange Empire Conference powerhouses, with Riverside City College grabbing the 5-4 victory over Orange Coast College Tuesday afternoon.

The Tigers improve to 6-1 on the year and open OEC with a 1-0 record, while the Pirates drop to 8-1 overall and 1-1 in conference.

Riverside found itself trailing 2-1 after doubles as Julianna Capraro and Caroline Cocker grabbed an 8-6 win to keep things close in the team match.

Janine Kremlin (7-5, 6-2), Madison Reynoso (6-4, 6-3), and Bridget Bradbury (6-2, 7-6 (2)) each won their singles matches, while the Pirates won at the No. 1 and No. 4 spots, putting the two teams deadlocked at 4-4.

In her first singles match, Denise Campbell dug deep and battled back from a 6-3 first-set loss to take the next two (6-3, 6-4), giving the Tigers the win and handing the Pirates their first loss of the year.

RCC continues conference play on Thursday, hosting Fullerton College at 2 p.m.
