Athletes and Team of the Week for the Week (November 4-10, 2024)

The OEC Athletes and Team of the Week have been named for the week of November 4-10, 2024.

The Men's Athlete of the Week is freshman goalkeeper Steven Martinez (Ontario, Calif./Chaffey HS) from the Fullerton College men's soccer team. Martinez and the Hornets went 1-0-1 on the week and captured the OEC Title with the tie vs. Santa Ana. The goalie made three saves in the victory at Irvine Valley and then one save vs. the Dons. It was the 10th shutout by the Hornet goalies this season. Martinez, who has logged over 1,000 minutes in goal, has five (with one combined). 

Sophomore Zoe Ziegler (Pacoima, Calif./Mission Academy) from the Cypress College women's volleyball team is the Women's Athlete of the Week. Ziegler led the Chargers to a huge sweep over Riverside City. She had 17 kills with just two errors (.469 clip) and four solo blocks. Against OEC-leading Orange Coast, the Chargers almost completed the reverse sweep. In the match, Ziegler had 14 kills. She leads the conference in hitting percentage and blocks per set. 

Once again, we have Co-Teams of the Week. The Riverside City College women's water polo team won its third-straight conference title, defeating Saddleback 12-9 in the OEC championship game. They are 27-3 on the season and currently ranked No. 2 in the state.

The Golden West College men's water polo team won its 35th-straight conference title, defeating Orange Coast College, 14-7, in the OEC Championship game. The Rustlers defeated Saddleback, 19-6 in the semifinals.
