Fullerton goes back-to-back

For the second straight season Fullerton College has captured the Orange Empire Conference championship in women's water polo after a 10-9 win against Riverside College on Saturday afternoon at Golden West College. The Hornets rallied from an early deficit in winning their second straight OEC title.

Fullerton (27-3) was matched up against Riverside for a fourth time this season and have now beaten the Tigers for a third straight time. The Hornets opened the tournament with a 10-3 win against Golden West in the semifinals on Friday.

In Saturday's final, Fullerton received three goals from Abigail Nunez and five assists from Bryanna Santis in the win. Nunez entered the game fourth on the team in goals-scored for the season but came up big when the Hornets needed her the most.

Fullerton now heads to the CCCAA Southern California Regional Tournament as one of the favorites in Southern California. The Hornets have lost solo games against Riverside, the Philippine National Team and Azusa Pacific University, going 25-1 against California community college programs.

The CCCAA Regional Water Polo Tournament starts on Thursday at Riverside City College.
