Orange Coast Crowned 2017 OEC Women's Water Polo Champions

CYPRESS, CA - The Orange Coast College Pirates (23-4, 6-0) women's water polo team defeated defending state champion Riverside City College (23-2, 5-1) in the 2017 Orange Empire Conference Water Polo Championship Final at Cypress College on Saturday, 9-6. The victory crowned the Pirates as 2017 Orange Empire Conference Champions. 

Bailey Lloyd put on a huge performance to lead the Pirates. Lloyd scored at least one goal in every quarter, finishing with a game-high five total goals in the Championship Final. However, both teams traded goals early and went into halftime tied 4-4.

The Pirates took control in the third quarter, outscoring the Tigers 3-1. Coasts' Delaney Mazelin netted two goals in the third and Lloyd added another to take a 7-5 lead into the fourth quarter. Riverside was unable to capitalize on their chances and OCC went on to win, 9-6.

Both teams will advance to the SoCal Championships next weekend.

In the 3rd place game, Golden West College defeated Fullerton College 7-4.

In the 5th place game, Cypress College defeated Saddleback College 11-8.

The 2017 SoCal Regional Championships will take place at LA Valley College Thursday, November 9 through Saturday, November 11, 2016.
