IVC Women's Volleyball Team No. 2 in State in First Poll of 2017

Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team is ranked No. 2 in the state and first in Southern California in the first California community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association Poll of the 2017 season.

The Lasers are off to a 5-0 start and have swept four opponents. Their lone non-sweep victory came against the No. 3 team in the state poll, College of the Canyons.

IVC defeated Canyons in four sets.

Cabrillo, from Northern California, is ranked first in the state. Cabrillo is 4-0 and won the Delta Classic. Among its wins is a five-set victory over No. 5 Fresno City.

After Cabrillo, Irvine Valley and Canyons, Bakersfield, Fresno, Grossmont, San Joaquin Delta, Pierce, El Camino and Feather River round out the top 10 teams in the state.

Irvine Valley, which swept Cerritos at home last Wednesday and No. 19 Long Beach City on the road on Friday, plays again Tuesday night, hosting Palomar at 5 p.m. in its final nonconference contest.

The Lasers, who are led by sophomores Megan RamseyerOlivia AguilarTaira Ka'awaloaGabi Lau and Diamond Brogan, along with freshman Alyssa VortouniAlma Entesari and Renata Bath, then begin Orange Empire Conference play on Friday at home against Cypress, which is ranked No. 13 in the state and seventh in Southern California.

Other OEC teams ranked in the state poll include Saddleback at No. 18 and Orange Coast at No. 25.
