The women's soccer season is heading into the post-season and it was announced that five programs from the Orange Empire Conference were chosen to play in the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs. In addition, Cypress College led the conference with eight all-conference selections.
Cypress, Santiago Canyon, Fullerton, Saddleback and Santa Ana all qualified for the playoffs on Tuesday, with Cypress, Santiago Canyon and Fullerton all receiving a play-in-round bye. Saddleback and Santa Ana will open the playoffs on Thursday.
Cypress received the top seed in Southern California after finishing the regular season 17-0-3. The Chargers will host the winner of Mt. San Antonio College (13-6-2) and College of the Canyons (12-5-4) on Saturday.
Santiago Canyon received the 3-seed and will play the winner of Cuesta (14-4-2) and Santa Ana (10-8-2), who play on Thursday in San Luis Obispo. Fullerton was the third member of the conference to receive a bye and the Hornets (9) will play on the road on Saturday at San Bernardino Valley (8).
Saddleback was named the 15-seed and will host Allan Hancock College (18) on Thursday at the Great Park in Irvine. Santa Ana (19), as previously noted, will play at Cuesta (14) in the play-in round on Thursday.
The All-Orange Empire Conference Teams were announced and Cypress led the list with eight different players making the squad as well as having the coaching-staff-of-the-year. The Chargers had Audree Campos, Jordan Barber, Hunter Richmond and Brianna Perez make the first team while Taleah Carter, Kelly Lopez, Morgan Patea and Nicolle Valdez were all named to the second team.
Santiago Canyon and Saddleback both garnered six players on the All-OEC Team, which each program receiving three first team selections and three second team selections.
Santa Ana's Leyna Wood was named the Orange Empire Conference MVP. Wood led the conference in scoring and currently ranks No. 6 in the state with 24 goals on the season. Wood scored in all but four games this season and scored at least one goal in each of the last nine games of the season.
