Gauchos tell Hornets to buzz off

The Saddleback women's soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to four games on Tuesday with a 2-0 shutout of Fullerton College at the Saddleback Stadium.  Danyelle Allen scored two first half goals as the Gauchos held on to fourth place in the Orange Empire Conference.

Saddleback started the day four points back of Irvine Valley College in the standings with a game in hand on the Lasers.  The Gauchos exited the game in the same spot in the standeings and put some distance between themselves and fifth place Golden West College.

Allen started the scoring in the 11th minute off a pass from Monica Venturini to give Saddleback the only goal it would need.  She then added some insurance in the 30th minute off a pass from Kathryn Kazzi for her 16th goal of the season as the Gauchos improved to 10-2-3 overall and 7-2-3 in OEC play.

The Saddleback defense was solid, allowing just eight total shots and five shots on goal for the game.  Alexandria Scott played the entire 90 minutes in goal, stopping all the Hornet shots for her seventh shutout of the season and 13th of her career.

For Allen, it was her 43rd and 44th goals of her career at Saddleback in 43 games.  It was the fourth time this season and 12th time in her career she has scored two-or-more goals in a game.

Saddleback will get another chance to improve its power ranking on Friday when it hosts perennial power Cypress College at 3:00 PM.  The Gauchos and Chargers played to a scoreless tie at Cypress on September 30.
