Santiago Canyon Leads All-Conference but Orange Coast's Moreno Takes Home MVP

Annmarie Moreno of Orange Coast College was named the Orange Empire Conference's Most Valuable Player.
Annmarie Moreno of Orange Coast College was named the Orange Empire Conference's Most Valuable Player.

Conference champion Santiago Canyon College placed eight players on the All-Orange Empire Conference team following the Hawks 10th-straight Orange Empire Conference Championship. But it was second place Orange Coast College, with six selections to the team, that can boast the conference Most Valuable Player as the OEC coaches voted Coast's Annmarie Moreno the MVP. The Coach of the Year honors stayed with the conference champs as Ian Woodhead received that award.

Moreno's accomplishments may not show up in the season stats as she tallied just one goal and one assist for the Pirates. But the sophomore defender anchored Orange Coast and embodied the term most valuable as she was continuously a part of seemingly every play for the Pirates.

Santiago Canyon was represented on the First Team by Jenny Konishi, the team's leading scorer with 18 goals, Shauna Salcido (1 goal, 4 assists), Reanne Macon (1 goal, 5 assists) and Jamie Smith.

As a team, the Hawks led the conference with 72 goals and 67 assists while also boasting a low of 0.55 goals against average.

Following the Hawks were the aforementioned Pirates, led by Devan Ellison (2 goals, 3 assists), Karly Freeman, who led the conference with 14 assists, and Sarah Guest.

Third place Cypress College also received three spots on the First Team led by Kendra Serrano (4 goals), Alex Moctezuma (1 goals, two assists) and Monique Gerrits (1 goal, 2 assists).

Rounding out the First Team was Danyelle Allen (Saddleback College), Jennifer Kraska (Saddleback College), Yasmin Hart (Irvine Valley College), Madisen Hammonds (Irvine Valley College), Randy Lundquist (Golden West College), Alexis Ramirez (Golden West College), Ariana Fleischman (Fullerton College), Courtney Fonti (Fullerton College), Kristina Alatorre (Santa Ana College) and Jenna Hink (Norco College).
