OEC Teams Advance to Regional Event

Three Orange Empire Conference teams and one individual qualifier have advanced to the CCCAA South Regional tournament at the Alisal Guest Ranch golf course in Solvang this week to compete for a spot in the CCCAA State Championship next Sunday and Monday, November 11-12, at Morro Bay.

Conference champion Saddleback has a full complement of players in the field, as does conference runner-up Fullerton and third place finisher Mt. San Antonio.  The lone individual from the conference is Irvine Valley freshman Katie Stribling who finished second overall in conference scoring this season.

After the first day of competition at the Alisal Guest Ranch, College of the Canyons leads the field with a team score of 298 while Saddleback and College of the Desert are tied for second at 329.  Santa Barbara is in fourth (334) with Mt. San Antonio in fifth place (355) and Fullerton in sixth place (365) in the 9-team field.  The top four teams advance to the state championship tourmament on the Morro Bay Golf Course.

Individually, Saddleback sophomore Brittney Do (pictured) posted an even-par 72 on the first day of regional competition for the second-best round of the day.  Teammates Tomoko Kim (84), Tannaz Khazeni (86), and Anna Stowers (87) have added to the Gauchos score with solid rounds.  Mt. San Antonio sophomore Mackenzie Kelly posted an 80 in the first round while teammate Cristina Liu added an 82 and Brianna Rojo posted an 85.  Fullerton sophomore and Orange Empire Conference Player of the Year Eunsoo Jeon posted a 75 with Hornet teammate Natalie Widjaja finishing with an 86.

CCCAA South Regional play concludes on Monday (Nov. 5) at Alisal Guest Ranch.
