Saddleback Holds Comfortable Lead Midway Through Conference Championship Event

Saddleback College took a commanding 33-stroke lead over the competition following the first day of the two-day, 36-hole Orange Empire Conference women's golf championship being contested on the Los Serranos Country Club courses in Chino Hills.

The Gauchos posted a team score of 341 on Wednesday, creating a comfortable lead over both Mt. San Antonio (374) and Fullerton (374).  Brittney Do posted a 6-over-par 78 to pace the Gauchos while the next four players each posted numbers in the 80's.  Tomoko Kim posted her best round of the season, carding an 86 on the club's north course.

Irvine Valley College freshman Katie Stribling (pictured) posted the lowest round, coming in with a 76.  Fullerton sophomore Eunsoo Jeon was two strokes back, matching Saddleback's Do with a 78.  Only one stroke separates Stribling and Jeon on the season as the pair battles for the conference Player of the Year award which goes to the person with the lowest season average.  Do, who won the title last year as a freshman, is 17 strokes back of the leaders this season.

The second round of the OEC Championship will be played on Wednesday, October 31, at the Los Serranos Country Club's longer south course (par 74) starting at 10:00 a.m.
