Conference Golfers Finish Well At State Championship

The Orange Empire Conference had four individual representatives playing in the CCCAA State Championship this week at the Morro Bay Golf Course and all four golfers finished near the top of the leaderboard to represent the conference well.

Saddleback freshman and OEC Player of the Year Brittney Do (pictured) led the field of 55 golfers after the first day, posting a 1-under-par 71 to share first-day honors with Sierra College sophomore Nao Bando.  Do would go on to shoot a 76 on the second day of the two-day, 36-hole championship to finish at 147.  That was good enough for fourth place and all-state recognition.

Irvine Valley freshman Kylie Sok posted an even-par 72 on the first day of the championship and also shot a 76 on the second day, finishing one shot behind Do with a 148.  She earned fifth place and also was named all-state.

Freshman Eunsoo Jeon of Fullerton College - the individual champion at the Southern California Regional Championship one week earlier - posted rounds of 78 and 79 to finish at 157 which tied her for 11th place as an individual while Mt. San Antonio freshman Mackenzie Kelly posted scores of 80 and 81 for a 161 total and a tie for 19th place.

Bando (Sierra) was the individual medalist with a two-day total of 3-under-par 141.  Sophomores Hannah Lovering (Reedley) and Vanessa Watkins (Santa Barbara) each finished at 145, just two shots ahead of Do.  Modesto captured the team title with a score of 633 to capture its first-ever women's golf title.
