Mounties win conference title

The Mt. San Antonio College women's golf team captured the 2015 Orange Empire Conference title on Wednesday, capturing the 36-hole conference championship tournament with a 2-day team total of 689 to earn 16 points and run away with the overall title.  College of the Desert (693), which led by three strokes after the first day of the conference championship, finished second while Mt. San Jacinto College (698) was able to place third at the conference championship.

College of the Desert sophomore Fumika Matsumoto won medalist honors with a two-day total of 158 (76-82) on the par-72 course at the Sun Lakes Country Club in Banning.  Mt. San Antonio sophomore Sarah Juelch was second with a score of 162 (84-78) – posting the only score under 80 on the second day.  Irvine Valley's Hyerin Kim was third at 163 (79-84) while Cuyamaca College's Melanie Stark (pictured) was fourth at 164 (83-81).

Mt. San Antonio, College of the Desert, Irvine Valley and Palomar each qualified to advance to the CCCAA Southern Regional which will be held November 8-9 at the Alisal Ranch golf resort in Solvang.  In addition to those four teams, the conference will also send Orange Coast College's Emily Lewis and September Mirghanbari to the regional as individual participants along with Cuyamaca's Melanie Stark and Neyla Macarty, Mt. San Jacinto's Amanda Arnold, Jane Lee, and Ashley Coy, as well as Saddleback's Haley Shadid.
