Mounties take control, Irvine Valley making a move

The Mt. San Antonio College women's golf team has now won five consecutive Orange Empire Conference events, distancing itself away from last year's conference and state champion, College of the Desert.

The Mounties were able to post a four-person team score of 330 on the par-73 Diamond Bar golf course while Irvine Valley (345) finished second and Desert (350) ended up in third.  Irvine Valley College has now made a run at the leaders and is only one victory behind Desert for second place in the conference standings.  Orange Coast (358) and Mt. San Jacinto (359) had a close battle for fourth place on Wednesday.

Last season's conference MVP, Fumika Matsumoto (pictured), rose to the top of the leader board on Wednesday to earn medalist honors with a 4-over-par 77.  Sarah Juelch of Mt. San Antonio carded a 78 while Hyerin Kim of Irvine Valley finished with a 79.  Mt. SAC was helped on the team score as Mounties Victoria Rodarte posted an 80 and Marissa Valencia added an 82.

The teams are back in action on Wednesday, September 30, when Orange Coast hosts a conference event at the Costa Mesa Country Club's Mesa Linda course.
