The Riverside City College track & field program kicked off conference play Friday evening as they hosted the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) invitational on home turf. The Tigers dominted on both sides as the men placed first with a points total of 307 and the women place first with a points total of 272.
For the women, Riverside was highly successful in the sprinting events. Freshman Alana Wilson dominated placed first in both of her solo events with a 12.37 mark in the 100 M and a 25.54 mark in the 200 M. Wilson earned her third first-place finish in the 4 x 100 M relay as she teamed up with freshman Mariah Allain, freshman Annayah Pelt and sophomore Alondra Gonzalez for a mark of 47.97.
Sophomore Jayea McMillan followed with a victory in the 400 M by snapping the tape at a time of 1:00.94, while freshman LaDaijah Wright followed closely behind in third place at a clip reading 1:02.14.
Sophomore Sha'quan Matthews was victorious in the 100 M Hurdles with a mark of 15.83, while freshman Kaleigh Giannone was nipping at her heals in second place with a time of 16.69. Sophomore Madeline Corner earned first place in the 400 M hurdles with a mark of 1:08.95, while Giannone landed in second with a time of 1:09.55.
Freshman Emonie Outlaw was victorious in the Triple Jump with a final distance of 33' 2.5", while sophomore Angelique Hudson earned the top spot in the Shot Put with a hurl of 41' 11.25". Sophomore Gabriela Sanabria and freshman McKayla Edwards finished back to back in the Javelin. Sanabria earned a top toss of 106' 8", while Edwards followed with an 87' 11".
The Riverside men were nearly untouchable on the track as they placed first in every event but two. Sophomore Jamal Palmer lit up the track with a 10.75 time in the 100 M to earn first place, while freshman Williams Dower placed second with a time of 11.09.
The 100 M Hurdle was on by sophomore Dillon Lay at a time of 15.35. He also placed second in the 400 M hurdles after crossing the finish line at 56.43.
Freshman Daniel Smith landed atop the podium in the 200 M with a clip of 22.43. Freshman Torre Smith earned a first-place medal in the 400 M dash with a time of 50.68, while freshman Julia Rodriguez-Richards was approximately a half of one second behind in second place.
Freshman Mohamed Mohammed was victorious in the 800 M after crossing the finish line with a time of 2:00.48. Sophomore Enrique Villa was close behind in second with a mark of 2:00.88. Villa earned his victory in the 1,500 M with a time reading 4:05.50.
Sophomore Justin Reed reigned supreme in the Long Jump by recording a mark of 22' 4.25", while freshman Christian Glba placed second in the Triple Jump with a mark of 44' 7".
Sophomore Alec Jones had a strong day as he placed first in the Discus with a mark of 150' 1" and a second place finish in the Hammer with a clip of 161' 6". Sophomore Marcos Gonzalez earned the top mark in the Javelin with a chuck reading 172' 8".
Riverside will return home on Friday, March 1 as they host a grip of Division I schools consisting of CSU Fullerton, UC Riverside, Cal Baptist, APU and CSU San Marcos.
