Riverside Takes First Place in Women's Track & Field

Costa Mesa, Calif. - The women of Riverside City College took home the Championship in the Orange Empire Conference  finals with a total of 313.5 points, beating out Fullerton by an impressive 195.5 points. The women's team's top Tiger runners included first place finishers: Mia Reynolds (100 meter dash, 200 meter dash), Crystal Tejeda (800 meter run, 1500 meter run) and Brianna Jacklin (5000 meter run, 10000 meter run). The women took place in a total of 15 events, including both relays. 

Fullerton's top athletes of the day included Fanny Giron finishing first in the 400 meter dash (58.05) and Samantha Duong taking first in the 400 meter hurdles (1:03.38). Jasmine Williams jumped her way to first place in the high jump (1.61m) and threw for first in the javelin (31.m).

Orange Coast placed third with 113 points, Saddleback College finished in fourth with Jacklyn Chasteler taking first place in the hammer throw (53.57) and rounding out the top 5 was host Golden West College. 

Representatives from the women's teams will be competing next Saturday, May 2, at the Southern California Preliminaries hosted by Cerritos College. The California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships will be held Friday-Saturday, May 15-16, at the College of San Mateo.
