Fullerton's Jasmine Williams Wins OEC Heptathlon

Jasmine Williams performed in her first heptathlon on Tuesday and Wednesday (March 11-12) at Orange Coast College (hosted by GWC) for the Orange Empire Conference Mutli-Championships. She had no idea that she would finish a champion and break two school records in this event.

Jasmnie has been diligently training for this Heptathlon, which consists of seven events during the course of two days.

Williams began day one locking down her best hurdle time of the season (15.22) and broke the OEC Heptathlon 100M Hurdle record held previously by Monica Holguin with a time of 15.47 in 1996.

Leading four out of the seven events after day one, Williams snapped two more personal records in the shot put and 200 meters.

Day two started with the long jump and javelin posting two more personal bests. In the 800 meter race, Jasmine ran two laps for the second best time of the day with a finishing time of 2:27.60, which solidified her title and also broke the Hornet school record with 4,581 points.

Former Hornet Monica Holguin held the school record for 19 years when she competed with 4,403 points in 1996.

"I wanted to break records and set my standards for myself. I accomplished that today, and I am very happy with all of my preparation", claimed Jasmine.

She is currently ranked #1 in Southern California for state competitions in the Heptathlon.
