Top-ranked Cypress Softball Remains Unbeaten in OEC Play

ORANGE, CA – The Cypress College softball team (27-2, 14-0 OEC) took it to the Santiago Canyon College Hawks (16-13, 6-8 OEC) in an 11-3 road victory on Wednesday afternoon. The Chargers are ranked No. 3 in the state and have an undefeated record in Orange Empire Conference play, while currently riding an 11-game winning streak.

Freshman pitcher Janea Brannen (W, 16-2) received the win, tossing her 14th complete game of the season. Brannen gave up 3 runs on 9 hits with 6 strikeouts on the day. Santiago's Danielle Stallings received the loss.

The Hawks got on the board first with an RBI single in the bottom of the second, but the Chargers answered when Brannen (3-for-5, HR, 2RBI) blasted a two-run homer to left field, giving the Chargers a 2-1 lead in the top of the third.

Santiago regained the lead after scoring two runs on a pair of RBI singles in the bottom of the third. Again, Cypress answered, tying the game on an RBI single from Amanda Campos (1-for-4, RBI).

The Chargers regained the lead, scoring three runs in the fifth. Gabrielle Munoz (2-for-2, RBI) slapped an RBI single to first base, followed by a 2 RBI double from Marissa Montesdeoca (2-for-4, 2RBI).

Infinity Laufou (1-for-4, HR, 4RBI) capped off the game with a grand slam over the center field wall to put the exclamation point on the Chargers' victory, 11-3.

Cypress softball will return to action on Friday when they travel to take on Orange Coast College at 2:00pm.
