No. 2 Cypress Softball Defeats Santiago Canyon Hawks, 5-0

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College softball team (11-1, 5-0 OEC) picked up a nice win at home over Orange Empire Conference rival Santiago Canyon (10-4, 3-2 OEC) on Thursday, 5-0. The Chargers entered the game ranked No. 2 in the state according to the most recent 3CFCA Coaches Poll.

Janea Brannen (W, 7-1) went the distance, pitching her fourth complete game, and first complete game shutout of the season. Brannen gave up just 5 hits, while notching 3 strikeouts to earn her seventh win of the season in the circle.

Infinity Laufou (1-for-3, RBI) drove in the game's first run with an RBI single to right field in the bottom of the third inning.

The Chargers took advantage of a Santiago Canyon mistake in the fifth to help add to their lead. Kimberly MacPherson (2-for-3) reached on a single to centerfield with two outs in the inning before stealing second base. Amanda Campos (0-for-3) hit an infield grounder that was kicked to the outfield wall by the Hawks second baseman. MacPherson and Campos would each score on the four base error.

Cypress added two insurance runs in the sixth on sacrifice flys from Lesley Bojorquez (1-for-2, RBI) and Madison Bogdanovich (0-for-2, RBI) to take a 5-0 lead.

No. 2 Cypress softball will return to action at home on Tuesday against Golden West College at 3:00pm.
