Hornets End Chargers' 62-Game Winning Streak, 4-1

The Hornets put an end to the Cypress Chargers' 62-game win streak dating back to last season's undefeated (48-0) season with a 4-1 conference home-win on Friday.

Fullerton has really come on strong lately winning four straight against quality opponents. Today, they gave the Chargers their first defeat since May 21, 2016, a 7-2 loss to Santiago Canyon College in the State Championship Tournament. It is also the first conference defeat for Cypress (48-0) since March 26, 2015, a 5-1 loss to Saddleback College. 21

Cypress drew first-blood in the top of the first inning scoring their only run on a sacrifice fly to right field. Tianna Harris flied out to right field scoring Sydney McCollum, who had gotten on base with a triple that traveled to right field fence.

The Hornets responded in their first at-bat scoring two runs. Nia Rodman doubled to right field scoring Dani Rico. Sabrina Anguiano then flied out to left for a sacrifice fly that gave Elexa Rangel the chance to cross home plate.

FC added two more runs in the fifth with two outs when Dani Rico nearly hit one out, but settled for a double instead. Rangel ripped a single to center field that brought Rico home. Rodman hit a hard spinning ball to the left side that was misplayed by the Chargers, and Rangel dove across home plate avoiding the tag.

FC pitcher Natasha Trujillo (7-6) remained hot in the circle tossing a complete 6-hit game allowing only 1 run. She also had 1 K and allowed 2 walks on the day.
