Cypress Leads OEC Softball into Final Round

The third, and final round, of Orange Empire Conference softball competition gets underway with Cypress College holding a comfortable lead atop the standings. At 14-0 in the OEC, the Chargers play at Santa Ana College today in one of four OEC games. Cypress is 2-0 against the Dons with both victories coming by virtue of the run-rule. The Chargers opened OEC play with a 14-0 win at SAC before claiming a 10-2 win at home over Santa Ana.

Cypress has only been tested in a conference game a handful of times with nine of their 14 OEC wins coming by five or more runs. The Chargers closest games were a pair of two-run games against Saddleback College and Fullerton College. Cypress picked up a 4-2 win over Saddleback one day before holding off Fullerton 2-0.

Also on the schedule today is second place Santiago Canyon College playing at Saddleback College. The Hawks have made quick work of Saddleback in both meetings with a pair of five-inning victories. The first game went by a score of 14-3 at Saddleback before Santiago Canyon got a 10-2 win at home.

Third-place Fullerton College plays host to Golden West College with the Hornets holding a 14-0 win over Golden West. The second meeting between these two teams was rained out and will resume prior to start of today's game. At the time it was rained out, Fullerton held a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The final game on the schedule features two teams with just one win separating them in the standings. Orange Coast plays host to Riverside City College today with the Tigers holding a slight edge over the Pirates with a 5-9 mark in conference compared to Orange Coast's 4-9 record. Head-to-head, Riverside is 2-0 against the Pirates with a close 7-6 victory at OCC in the first game before picking up a 9-1 win in six innings at home.
