Riverside City and Santiago Canyon Atop Softball Standings with Eight Games Remaining

Just over the halfway point, Riverside City College and Santiago Canyon College are tied for first place in the Orange Empire Conference with Santa Ana College and Cypress College close behind.

With just three games separating the top four spots, and the top four teams playing each other this week, the OEC title is up for grabs with just eight games remaining. The teams return to OEC action on Wednesday, April 2 with Santa Ana hosting Santiago Canyon while Cypress hosts Riverside City.

As it stands today, Riverside City holds a slight edge over Santiago Canyon as the Tigers have defeated the Hawks in both meetings this season. Their final matchup comes on April 4 at Riverside City College.

The third place Dons, however, hold the edge over Riverside City with a pair of wins while only playing Santiago Canyon just once so far this season. But right behind the Dons is Cypress with the Chargers holding a 2-0 lead over Santa Ana.

The Hawks have defeated Cypress twice this season and look to complete the sweep on April 16 at Santiago Canyon. Much like the Dons and Hawks have two games left against each other, so do the Chargers and Tigers with Riverside City holding the one victory in that series.

Also in play is Saddleback College at 7-6, just four games behind the top spot. The Gauchos have won five straight games, but only two have been in conference, and have just two wins against the top four teams, both against Cypress.
