2014 Water Polo OEC Championships – Day 1 results

Huntington Beach, Calif. - As the first day of the Orange Empire Conference Championships come to a close, the reigning champions of Golden West will enter Saturday's game in the top seed.

The morning started with a double overtime sudden death win for Riverside over Saddleback College. The final score was 23-22 with Trevor Tripp and Joseph Rivas leading the Tigers with six goals each.

In game 2, Fullerton defeated Santa Ana in a 12-7 sting from the Hornets. Fullerton started the first quarter strong, only allowing Santa Ana a single goal, while the Hornets scored six of their own. Santa Ana did their best to recover in the third, but it was Fullerton's moment to advance to game 4.

Golden West's 18-8 win over Riverside placed the Rustlers in the Championship game for Saturday afternoon. The host team ran the score up early in the game with a 14-4 lead going into half time.  A total of eight Rustlers found the back of the net, Gilbert Milanaes lead their efforts with four goals. Josh Hueth added three, while Ciaran Wolohan, Bendeguz Toth, Paco Gonzales, Andrew Papilion and Benjamin Naugle each netted twice.

Orange Coast finished the day with a 10-5 victory over Fullerton. The Pirates started the game slowly with a single goal in the first quarter, but took a solid lead scoring three goals in each of the following quarters. Leading in points for the Pirates were Connor Farris, Garret Glore and Jake Davis; each with three goals.

The men will come back to the water on Saturday for the Championship bracket. Tomorrow, the women of the Orange Empire Conference take over the pool with the first game at 9:00am.
