Huntington Beach, Calif. – Golden West College won the men's 2017 Orange Empire Conference Swim Championship Saturday evening with a total of 849 points scored. Riverside finished second in the OEC with 782 points.
The championship rounds for the men started with the long 1650 freestyle race. Golden West College had the top three finishes starting with a first place finish from Liam Mcclafferty at 16:45.39. Jacob Thompson finished second at 16:52.06 followed by Garrett Wasserman at 17:00.59.
Arnaud Magnan from Riverside claimed the 200 backstroke title with a time of 1:53.10. Golden West's Aidan Lund finished in a close second at 1:53.81 and Orange Coast's Daniel Herrera came in third at 1:56.98.
Riverside's Maxence Bouvier won the 100-yard freestyle for the second year in row at 44.44. Orange Coast's Donny Hadden claimed second at 45.38 and Golden West's Chadd Maurer took third at 45.52.
The men's 200 breaststroke 12 year old record (Brent Watkins, 2:03.58) was broken by Golden West's Santiago Rivera at 2:03.36. Teammate Miles Dunn finished in a close second place at 2:03.74 while Jacob Adams from Orange Coast finished third at 2:09.07.
Farouk Zaoui from Riverside finished first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:52.37. Sonny ford from Golden West claimed second at 1:53.33 and Cole Florez from Riverside took third place at 1:54.50.
Riverside won the final event of the championships in the 400-yard free relay behind Jacob White, Lazar Raca, Kyle Acevedo, and Maxence Bouvier's effort of 3:03.60. Golden West finished second at 3:04.30 and Cypress claimed third at 3:10.28.
