Cypress Earns Share of Conference Lead

Cypress moved back into a tie for first place in the conference standings after winning this week's Orange Empire Conference match on the Babe course at Industry Hills.

Despite beautiful conditions, individual scores this week soared compared to last week's totals while playing the Costa Mesa Country Club Los Lagos course.  Not a single round posted under par this week after 12 players came in under par last week.  Cypress posted a team score of 379 at Industry Hills to get past Orange Coast College (388) and climb back into a tie with Mt. San Antonio College (390) with 28 conference wins this season.  The Chargers posted five scores in the mid-70s, paced by Tommy Chung at 74 and Panos Pantazopolous at 75.

Orange Coast was paced by sophomore Connor O'Hern (pictured) who carded a 1-over-par 72 to earn medalist honors on the day.  O'Hern's round also launched him back to the top of the leaderboard in terms of individual averages, a spot he held after the first week of conference competition but let slip away.  He now shares the top spot with David Marris of Cypress who both average 72.9 strokes per round this season.  Blake Copeland of Mt. San Antonio and Saddleback's Chase Bosanko are both 10 total strokes behind as they average 74.3 strokes per round.

Copeland led Mt. San Antonio with a 76 at Industry Hills and Bosanko posted a 73 to help Saddleback maintain fourth place (397).

The final match of the regular season will take place on the Arroyo Trabuco Golf Course in Mission Viejo on Monday (April 15).  The conference championship will take place two weeks later (April 29) at Royal Vista Golf Club in Walnut.
