Cypress Wins Match On Its Home Course

RESULTS

The defending state champion Cypress College men's golf team returned to top form in the Orange Empire Conference's second match of the season, besting the field by 27 strokes this week on the Chargers' home course of Candlewood with a team score of 361.

The Chargers were not so fortunate in the conference-opener at Royal Vista last week, placing fourth with a team score of 384 as Mt. San Antonio won the match on its home course with a team score of 370.  But Cypress was able to add two new players to the line up for the second match and it paid off as Panos Pantazopolous earned medalist honors with an even-par round of 70 and Matt Wotherspoon added a 73.  Freshman Tommy Chung (71) and sophomore Dalton Davenport (72, pictured) allowed Cypress to sweep the top four spots on the medalist podium.

Orange Coast placed second with a team score of 388 as Bryce Sheridan and Tyler Thurmond each posted 75's for the Pirates while Mt. San Antonio finished third with a team score of 391.  Blake Copeland fired a 73 for the Mounties.  Cole Griffo of Saddleback also carded a 73.

Team Scores:
Cypress - 361
Orange Coast - 388
