Tigers Too Tough on Home Course

The Riverside City College men's golf team slipped past the rest of the field to capture this week's Orange Empire Conference match hosted by the Tigers on their home course at Victoria Country Club.

The Tigers posted a team score of 378 while Orange Coast (384), Mt. San Antonio (385) and Saddleback (386) were battling it out for second place.  Conference leader Cypress posted a team score of 392 and finished in fifth place.

Medalist honors went to Cole Albert of Mt. San Antonio College (pictured) who posted a 1-under-par 71 on the day.  Brian Nielsen of Riverside and Dalton Davenport of Cypress each carded even-par rounds of 72.  Riverside was helped to the win by Michael Herrera's 73 and Ryan Dehart's 74 while Orange Coast was led by a pair of 74's from Taka Inoue and Chris Casey.  Saddleback was kept in the hunt as Jackson Blogg posted a 75 and Cole Griffo added a 76.

Cypress, which held a two-victory lead in the conference standings, saw its lead vanish as the Chargers placed fifth in today's event.  Cypress and Orange Coast are now tied with 24 wins apiece and Riverside crept back up into the third spot in the conference standings with 16 wins.  Saddleback and Mt. San Antonio each have 13 wins.

The conference competition continues next Wednesday (April 4) as all six teams converge on the Costa Mesa Country Club course in a match hosted by Orange Coast College.
