Cypress Extends Its Lead With Win at Tustin Ranch

The Cypress College men's golf team picked up another win on Monday at the Orange Empire Conference match hosted by Irvine Valley College on the Tustin Ranch golf course, extending its lead in the conference standings over Orange Coast while the rest of the pack fights it out for third place.

The Chargers (18-2 overall) were led this time by Dalton Davenport (pictured) who carded a 1-under-par 71 and was the only golfer to post a red number on the day.  Teammates Matt Rafter (75), George Bris (76), Jay Chang (77), and Andrew Thomson (78) fell in line to help Cypress to a 377 team score.  Orange Coast (16-4) placed second on the day, paced by Taka Inoue at even-par 72.  Connor O'Hern added a 73 with Chris Casey coming in at 78.

An interesting battling is happening in the conference race for third place where Mt. San Antonio (9-11), Riverside (9-11), and Saddleback (8-12) are bunched up.  Riverside finished third this week with a team score of 384 while Saddleback finished fourth at 400 and Mt. San Antonio placed fifth at 407.  Riverside received a 74 from Michael Herrera while Tigers Brian Nielsen and Ryan Dehart each posted 77's and Damian Quintanilla and Conner Weissberg posted identical 78's.  Saddleback was paced by Jackson Blogg at 74, but he was the only Gaucho to break 80.  Mt. San Antonio didn't have any golfer break 80 on Monday.  Despite 77's from Edward Costes and Anton Li, Irvine Valley posted a team score of 433 to place sixth on Monday.

All teams will meet again on Monday, March 19, on the Industry Hills property for a match hosted by Mt. San Antonio.
