Santiago Canyon Hawks Win Big in Inaugural Men's Basketball Game
ORANGE, CA - Santiago Canyon College (1-0) scored a big win in their inaugural mens basketball game against Long Beach City College (0-1) at home on Wednesday night. The Hawks dominated the Vikings in the first round of the SAC/SCC Basketball Tournament, 105-84. It was the season opener for both teams.
   
Rodney "Rocket" Henderson led the Hawks with a game-high 39 points and 11 boards. A.J. Garrity added 23 points on 6-of-12 shooting, while Antoine Jenkins chipped in 15 points and a team-high 4 assists.
 
Jeremiah Sader was a bright spot for Long Beach City, finishing with 26 points and 3 rebounds on 9-of-17 shooting. William English added 17 points off the bench for the Vikings.
 
The Hawks came out firing in the first half. SCC got to the foul line at will and drilled 7-of-14 shots from long range to propel them to a 47-30 halftime lead. Long Beach had no answer defensively for the Hawks, as they finished the night shooting 52-percent from the field, 42-percent from deep, and converted on 35-of-42 shots at the foul line.
