IVC Moves Closer to 2019 OEC Beach Volleyball Title

Irvine Valley's women's beach volleyball team swept through two more opponents in the Orange Empire Conference on Friday afternoon at IVC.

The Lasers defeated Fullerton, 5-0, and then Saddleback, 5-0.

Irvine Valley wasn't the designated home team of the event, as Saddleback used IVC's courts to host. Irvine Valley still dominated on its sand.

The Lasers improved their record to 10-7 overall, but that mark is skewed. IVC is 7-0 against community college opponents and is 6-0 now in the Orange Empire Conference.

Irvine Valley moved that much closer to a conference title with four matches left to play in the regular season.

The Lasers had no problem with Fullerton in its first match at 11 a.m.

Irvine Valley got straight-set wins in four of five contests.

The Lasers' No. 1 team on the day of freshmen Lea Kruse and Truth Hafey pulled out a 21-19, 13-21, 16-14 win over Fullerton's Lauren Schafer and Amanda Henderson.

The No. 2 IVC team of freshmen Anna Unke and Gabriela Griego won, 21-18, 21-7, the No. 3 squad of sophomores Emilie Austin and Alyssa Vortouni cruised, 21-5, 21-13 and the No. 4 duo of freshmen Kendall Nolan and Alaina Gendale won, 21-3, 21-9.

Irvine Valley's team on the fifth court, sophomore Alison Kent and freshman Alaina Thomas, won by default.

The Lasers won each of their contests against Saddleback in straight sets.

Austin and Vortouni had the easiest time, winning, 21-12, 21-8, on the third court.

IVC plays again next Friday in another three-way match against Fullerton and Riverside at IVC. Fullerton is the designated host.
