The FC men's basketball squad came out clicking at Cypress College Wednesday night beating their district and conference rival 62-56.
Fullerton's victory ups their record to 4-22 overall and 2-9 in the Orange Empire Conference. The loss for Cypress gives them an overall record of 10-16 and an OEC record of 3-8.
The Hornets owned the first half outscoring the Chargers 33-24 by the break, but the Chargers fought back in the second half with an 18-4 run to tie the game at 50.
With less than six minutes left in regulation, the game became a back-and-forth shootout with Fullerton retaking the lead at 56-53. The Chargers again tied the game at 56-56 with 1:09 remaining.
FC's defense then stepped up putting a halt to any of Cypress' advances allowing them to pull off the conference win.
Austyn Thompson came off the bench to score a game-high 17 points for the Hornets. Jake McCloskey scored 15points and had 5 boards. Adam Johnson nearly missed a double-double scoring 9 points with 13 rebounds while Kristopher Nelson put up 7 points with 10 rebounds. Isaiah Clark chipped in with 10 points with 7 boards.
As a team, Fullerton shot 46% from the floor to the Charger's 32%.
Up Next: The Hornets will host their final game of the season this Friday, February 20th against #12 in SoCal Irvine Valley College (15-11, 8-3). Game time is at 5:00 pm.
