Women’s Volleyball Improves to 8-0 With 3-1 Win Over El Camino

 

 
The No. 5 Cypress Chargers women's volleyball team (8-0) took down No. 6 El Camino on Wednesday night, defeating the Warriors 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 21-25, 25-16) to continue its undefeated season in a rematch of last Saturday's thrilling comeback win in the championship game of the Cerritos Tournament.
 
El Camino took a 10-6 lead in game one before the Chargers went on a 5-1 run to tie the game at 11. Cypress took the lead at 13-12 and then went on to win 25-21.
 
Game two saw Cypress jump out to an early 4-0 lead, but El Camino battled back to tie it and eventually take a slight lead over the Chargers. Cypress didn't back down and went on to win the set 25-21.
 
The Warriors took a 4-1 lead early in set three, but the Chargers were able to tie the game at seven and then take the lead for a few points after that. El Camino tied the game at 10 and then took the lead, which helped them to a 25-21 victory.
 
In game four, El Camino started off hot, taking a 7-4 lead, but the Chargers fought back to tie the game at eight and then took the lead at 9-8. Cypress never looked back and went on to win big, 25-16, in the final set.
 
The Chargers had three players with double-digit kills as Makayla Taylor led the way with 16. Lindsey Ray added 12, while Charity Dennis notched 10. Ray, Zhane (Nae) Bender and Cassidy Johnson each tallied 11 digs. Dennis and Taylor each had a team-high five blocks. Paige Buchanan led the team with three aces.
 
Up next, Cerritos will travel to Mt. SAC on Sept. 24 for its final non-conference game.
