No. 5 Cypress Falls to No. 2 Irvine Valley 3-1

Cypress – The fifth-ranked Cypress Chargers lost a 3-1 decision (17-25, 16-25, 25-16, 18-25) to No. 2 Irvine Valley College on Wednesday evening as only two games remain in the regular season. Cypress falls to 17-4 overall and 8-4 in OEC matches, while IVC remains undefeated (19-0, 12-0 OEC).

Cypress won game three, which marks only the second time this season that IVC has dropped a set.

Lindsey Ray and Makayla Taylor each had a team-high 12 kills, while Taylor led the team in digs with 26 and Ray added 18. Ave Mikaela also had double-digit digs with 16.

In set one, the Chargers led by as many as four, but after tying the game at 12 all, IVC would go on a 10-0 run to lead 19-12 and put the game out of reach.

Set two saw Irvine Valley take control early. Up 15-6, Cypress called timeout and was able to close to within 15-10 before the Lasers again pulled away.

In the third set, the Chargers would take an 11-6 lead, which prompted IVC to call timeout. Cypress would push its lead to 15-7 as the Lasers called a second timeout, but they could do nothing to stop the Chargers as they won set three 25-16.

IVC came out firing in set four as Cypress struggled to get their offense going and the Lasers would go on to win 25-18 to seal their victory.

The Chargers will make their final road trip of the regular season on Friday when they travel to Saddleback for a 6:00 pm match. They then return home on Wednesday, Nov. 19 for the final match of the regular season when they host Santa Ana at 7:00 pm.
